WORKS ON THE NORTHERN MARMARA MOTORWAY CONTINUE AT FULL SPEED
85 percent of the works on the Northern Marmara Motorway has been completed. Asphalting works of the motorway, which is planned to be completed on December 21, 2020, are still continuing at the Kocaeli crossing. A great part of the viaducts and tunnels have been completed in the Kocaeli section of the Northern Marmara Motorway and the asphalting works have been started. The Project works, with a total cost of 13.6 billion TL, continue at full speed. The project consisting of a total of 430 kilometers shall include 8 tunnels, 30 viaducts, 143 bridges, 96 underpasses, 73 overpasses and 600 culverts. In the 5th section of the Project, which is located between the Dilovası Port Connection Road of the Northern Marmara Motorway and İzmit, which will have a length of approximately 52 kilometers; 5 tunnels, 6 viaducts and 2 bridges shall be situated. The 4-lane tunnels being constructed in Dilovası Port Intersection-İzmit section of the Project bear feature of being the widest tunnels in the world.
As the road between Dilovası Port Connection Road and Körfez Sevindikli opens up to transportation, the traffic is planned to be relieved in Istanbul, Kocaeli and Sakarya when the project is completed.
The project includes 14 intersections in the European section and 29 intersections in the Anatolian section of the Northern Marmara Motorway. In the Project, which is expected to be completed on December 21, 2020, the drivers who will enter the motorway from Silivri shall be connected to the TEM motorway from Akyazı after crossing the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.
